I realize I could have been a little less of an asshole. But it was 8 am in the morning, and I was already pretty irritable from all her singing earlier. I wasn’t kidding when I told her she woke me up. Usually, I wouldn’t mind, and the singing was actually pretty great. If I were on the job, being woken up at odd hours of the night or morning wouldn’t bother me. But I’m not on the job right now.
I’m on vacation, dammit.
It’s been three days, and I’m seriously considering begging my boss to let me come back to work. But considering she’s the one that kicked me out in the first place, I’m sure it would be a losing battle. According to her, I’m not allowed to show my face back at the company for two months.
Meaning I’m stuck here in Redstone Ridge, Arizona. And it’s literally the last place I want to be.
A kick on my front door is swiftly followed by a yell of pain right before I hear, “Asshole!”
She walks away after that, and I almost smile. A few minutes ago wasn’t the first time I saw her. When she arrived home last night, I was standing by the windows and saw her climbing down from her black motorcycle carrying two groceries bags and dressed in a form-fitting dress and a blue jacket. She caught my eye, and not just because she was driving a bike that looked like it belonged to a biker gang member. But because of how breathtakingly beautiful she is. I couldn’t take my eyes off her as she walked up to her doorstep. Then she looked toward the window, and I quickly ducked out of the way before I was accused of stalking or worse.
This morning, she arrived on my doorstep, fresh-faced with a smile, and I really wanted to be nice. But I’m not wired like that. And she ruined my morning. My default setting is asshole, no matter how pretty the person I’m talking to is.
For some reason, I find myself walking towards the window in the living room again. I’m able to see her walk back to her home. Well, stomp all the way there is more like it. She keeps looking back at my house with a murderous expression on her face, and for some reason, it’s cute.
She’s wearing a black leather jacket with black leggings. Her blonde hair is in a ponytail, accentuating her high cheekbones, and her lips are painted red like sin. And suddenly, I’m not thinking she’s cute anymore. She’s drop-dead gorgeous. Now I’m hoping she doesn’t glance toward the window and catch me watching her. The right solution would be to look away. But I’m entranced, especially when she drops the basket in her hands and pulls her phone out of her jacket. She answers a call, and I watch as she smiles, her entire face practically lights up.
I frown, wondering what the hell is wrong with me as I walk away from the window. Sure, the woman’s gorgeous, but no good will come from further interactions with her. Plus, I’m pretty sure she dislikes me by now.
